The 1839 Discovery Behind Our Relaxation Meditation MP3

We put together a free meditation track, and yes, it really is free. The idea behind it is simple: certain sounds can gently coax your brainwaves toward a calmer, more relaxed state. We recorded this one with that purpose in mind.

The audio draws on something a physicist noticed almost two centuries ago. Back in 1839, Heinrich Wilhelm Dove documented a particular effect that a specific kind of sound produces inside the human perceptual system. Dove was no fringe figure. He held a Fellowship with the Royal Society and ran the Prussian Meteorological Institute, and he was the first to describe what this auditory stimulus does to the way we hear.

His observation sat mostly unused for a long time. Only decades later, roughly between the 1950s and the 1970s, did people turn it into a working audio technique. Several parties have since claimed credit for building that technology, but the original discovery traces back to Dove.

We took that same acoustic principle and shaped it for mindfulness and relaxation rather than for any laboratory purpose. The result is the track we are giving away here, and we hope it brings you some quiet.

If you want to read further, it helps to look up mindfulness together with the psychological effects of brainwave entrainment. Published studies on these topics are indexed on PubMed, which is a good place to see the actual data.

One note on claims: nothing here has been reviewed or approved by the FDA, and none of it is meant to diagnose or treat any disease.
