The Free Relaxation MP3 Built on an 1839 Discovery

We put together a meditation audio file you can download at no cost. Genuinely free, nothing attached. The recording works on your brainwaves, nudging them toward a calmer, more settled state so that sitting down to relax or practice mindfulness becomes easier.

The idea behind it goes back a long way. In 1839, a physicist named Heinrich Wilhelm Dove noticed something odd about how the ear and brain respond when each ear receives a slightly different tone. He was no fringe figure: a Fellow of the Royal Society who ran the Prussian Meteorological Institute. Dove was the first to document the perceptual effect, even though plenty of people later claimed credit for the technology that grew out of it.

That observation sat mostly as a curiosity until the middle of the twentieth century. Somewhere between the 1950s and the 1970s, people turned Dove's finding into a usable audio method, and it has carried various names and competing origin stories ever since. Our recording takes that same auditory principle and points it at one thing: helping you quiet down and pay attention to the present moment.

If you want to read the science rather than take our word for it, search for 'mindfulness' along with 'the psychological effects of brainwave entrainment.' A fair amount of published work on the subject lives on PubMed, and you can judge the evidence yourself.

A few honest caveats. These statements have not been reviewed or approved by the FDA, and the file is not meant to diagnose or treat any medical condition.
