Janet Attwood on Enlightened Alliances and the Passion Test
The alliance work turned out to be some of the most useful training I picked up. The method is almost embarrassingly simple, and it applies to any relationship you're trying to build, because none of us accomplishes much without partners. Start by getting honest about your own position: what do you most need right now? Then, before you approach anyone you'd like to work with, figure out the same thing about them. What's the one need sitting at the top of their list?
Once you can meet that need of theirs, yours tends to get taken care of in the process. People lean in when you've helped them. They start looking for ways to return the favor. That reciprocity is the whole engine behind what we call enlightened alliances, and I owe that lesson to Mark and Bob. They handed it to me plainly, and it stuck.
Erick asked whether there was anything left I wanted to get to before we ran out of time, so let me come back to the formula for a passionate life. Earlier I walked everyone through the opening step of the Passion Test, and I mentioned that the method is really a chain of exercises, one leading into the next and the next. The first one is the elimination-accuracy process. There are many others beyond it, and each one sharpens your clarity a little more as you work through it.
One line from the Passion Test book has always stayed with me: when you are clear, what you choose will show up in your life, but only to the degree that you are actually clear. I covered that fast here, almost too fast.
For anyone who wants to go deeper and really become fluent in living this way, we run a certification program, the one I brought up at the start. Four days, live, and genuinely a good time. You're in a room full of people who share the same pull toward a passionate life. We take you through the full Passion Test, work on the beliefs that hold you back, and hand you a stack of practical tools.
We describe the Passion Test less as a procedure and more as a way of living. If you'd like to take a bigger step, the certification details are online. The program connects you to a community spread across the world, people sharing this work one on one, from a stage, or simply keeping it as a practice of their own. That's how you move from studying the ideas to teaching them, and to living what you teach.
