The 1839 Discovery Behind Our Free Relaxation MP3

We want to give you a meditation track, no strings attached. It really is free, and it was built to coax your brainwaves toward a calmer, more settled state. Consider it a small gift.

The idea traces back to 1839 and a German physicist named Heinrich Wilhelm Dove. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society and directed the Prussian Meteorological Institute, and he happened to be the first person to notice something curious about how the human ear and brain respond to a particular kind of sound. When you feed each ear a slightly different tone, the perceptual system reacts in a specific, measurable way.

Dove described the effect; others picked it up much later. Between roughly the 1950s and the 1970s, that early observation was turned into a working audio technique. Plenty of people have since claimed credit for the technology itself, but the original finding belongs to Dove.

Our MP3 takes that same auditory principle and points it at something practical: mindfulness and relaxation. If you want to read more about how any of this is supposed to work, try searching for 'mindfulness' alongside 'the psychological effects of brainwave entrainment,' and look for published studies on PubMed.gov.
