Back in 1839, a physicist named Heinrich Wilhelm Dove noticed something odd about how the human ear and brain handle two slightly different tones played at the same time, one in each ear. Dove held a seat as a Fellow of the Royal Society, worked as a physicist, and ran the Prussian Meteorological Institute. He was the first to describe the perceptual effect that two mismatched frequencies create inside our hearing.
His observation sat around for more than a century before anyone turned it into a usable audio method. Between roughly 1950 and 1970, that groundwork became a practical technology. Several people have since claimed to have originated the technique, but the underlying discovery traces straight back to Dove.
We took his finding and built a free MP3 track around it, shaping the audio stimulus toward relaxation and mindfulness practice. The recording is meant to coax your brainwaves toward a calmer state. There's no cost attached; it's a gift, and we hope you get something out of it.
If you want to read the actual research behind any of this, try a search for 'mindfulness' alongside 'psychological effects of brainwave entrainment,' which will point you to published studies indexed on PubMed.gov.
