Think of it like a television set. Turn the dial to the history channel and that's what plays. Switch over to CNN and you get something else entirely. The brain works on a comparable principle: when you tune it to a specific pattern, you pick up what some would call the astral plane. Keep in mind that the beings you might encounter there are not all angels. The Catholic Church counts nine orders of them, Thrones, Powers, Dominations, Cherubim, Seraphim, Angels, Archangels, Guardian Angels, with one more I can never seem to keep hold of. Beyond those nine, the astral plane is said to hold plenty of other presences, each with some measure of intelligence and a kind of light body, an astral body, but no flesh.
I ran into this once with a Green Beret. The man sitting across the table from me was enormous, shaved head, the sort of fighter you would not want to meet on a bad day. I kept glancing between his readings and his face, back and forth, and the numbers kept telling me the same thing: this was the angel pattern. I wasn't about to ask a guy like that whether he saw angels, so I needed a tougher way in. What I said was, "Do you talk to beings that other people don't see?"
The question landed on him like a swung plank. He rocked back in his chair hard enough that he nearly went over, breathing fast, eyes darting around the room to check whether anyone else had caught what I said. Then he leaned in and told me, almost under his breath, that yes, during his martial arts training an old Asian master would appear and coach him through it. He wanted to know how I could possibly know. He had sworn his closest friend to secrecy about it, death threats and all, and here I was naming it. I told him the truth: it showed up in his numbers. It was his pattern.
A lot of this comes back to what we call the psychophysiological principle. Any experience you have as a living person arrives with a matching pattern of brain waves, and you only get the experience while that pattern is present. Shift the waves and the experience shifts with them. Depression carries its own signature; move those waves toward the ones a happy person produces and the mood follows. The same goes the other way. Bring your brain waves into a given pattern and the corresponding states open up. Though not everyone who walks in the door shows the angel pattern to begin with.
