Zen, Meditation, and Development

We put together a free MP3, part of a set we call RELAX, and the point is simple: it nudges your brainwaves toward a calmer, more settled state. Yes, it really is free. Nothing to buy, no catch buried in the fine print.

The idea behind it goes back further than you might guess. In 1839 a physicist named Heinrich Wilhelm Dove noticed something odd about how the ear and brain respond to a particular kind of sound. Dove was no fringe figure. He held a fellowship at the Royal Society and ran the Prussian Meteorological Institute. He was the first to describe the effect that a specific auditory stimulus creates inside human perception.

The practical side came much later. Between roughly the 1950s and the 1970s, people turned Dove's observation into a working audio technique. Several groups have claimed credit for that technology over the years, but the original discovery of the effect itself belongs to Dove.

What we did was take that principle and shape it around two uses: mindfulness and relaxation. The MP3 is our attempt to hand you a small, useful gift and nothing more.

If you want to read the actual research rather than take our word for it, search for 'mindfulness' along with the 'psychological effects of brainwave entrainment' and look at what has been published on PubMed.
